Between 1941 and 1945, Americans from across western New England served in nearly every major battle of World War II. From Pearl Harbor and the Battle of the Bulge to Iwo Jima and the D-Day invasion, these service men and women served their country with honor, with more than 2000 of them never to return home.

On the home front, local residents were instrumental to the war effort, working long hours at places like The Springfield Armory, where more than 14,000 employees staffed a 24-hour a day production line, building Garand M-1 rifles. Hundreds more were employed at Pratt & Whitney in Connecticut, where engines for the P-47 Thunderbolt were assembled.

From the Factories to the Frontlines preserves some of the greatest war stories ever told by the residents of western New England and captures the moment when the greatest and deadliest war of all time came calling, and changed the lives of a generation forever.
